Swedish pop group, formed 1990 in Gothenburg

Ace of Base cut their version in 1993 at Tuffs Studios in Gothenburg with producers Tommy Ekman and Per Adebratt, and released it in March 1994 on Mega in Europe and Arista in the US. It reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 5 in the UK and No. 1 in Canada, and became one of the defining radio records of that summer. Their reading is genuinely excellent — airy, unhurried, built on a reggae‑lite lilt that suits the lyric’s wounded calm. The only thing wrong with it is the date people attach to it.
