Aerosmith

Formed 1970 in Boston · American hard rock band

Aerosmith recorded the song at the Record Plant in New York between December 1973 and January 1974 and released it on their second album, “Get Your Wings,” on Columbia in March 1974. Their arrangement is in two distinct parts — a slow, groove-heavy opening that erupts into a full-tilt rocker — with lead guitar contributions from session players Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner. An edited single followed in October 1974 and did not chart, but the album version became a fixture of album-oriented rock radio and remains one of the band’s best-known performances. The record is superb; only the assumption that they wrote or first cut it is wrong.
