Alan Ashley-Pitt was one of the pseudonyms of Francis Phillip Wernig, who by his own account published greeting cards and posters with Aardvarque Enterprises, Inc. between 1969 and 1972 under the names Bent Malling, Denver Lang and Alan Ashley-Pitt. Aardvarque operated out of Santa Barbara, California — the address Eda LeShan printed in her footnote when she quoted the poster in 1973. A US Catalog of Copyright Entries covering January–June 1971 registers a poster titled “On creativity” by “Alan Ashley-Pitt, pseud. of Francis Phillip Wernig,” with a copyright date of 15 July 1970.
