She has a Goodreads author page, a handful of quotation-site profiles and thousands of classroom posters, and beneath all of it there is no book, no article, no institution, no dates and no obituary. It is possible she was a real and very private individual whose one memorable sentence outran her; it is also possible the name was invented, or garbled from something else, early in the social-media era. Nobody has been able to show which — and the honest way to carry the quotation is to admit that.
