Allen Saunders

Allen Saunders was an American writer, journalist, and cartoonist best known for scripting the long-running newspaper comic strips Mary Worth, Steve Roper, and Kerry Drake. Reader’s Digest credited the “making other plans” aphorism to him in January 1957 — though his own strip framed the idea as “an old saying,” so Saunders may have been polishing existing folk wisdom rather than inventing it outright.
