Anne Frank

Annelies Marie ‘Anne’ Frank (1929–1945) was a German-born Jewish girl whose diary, kept while hiding from the Nazis in an Amsterdam annex from 1942 to 1944, became one of the most widely read books in the world. She died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in early 1945; her father Otto, the family’s only survivor, had the diary published in Dutch in 1947. The 7 March 1944 entry is among her most quoted, written as she reflected on finding beauty and happiness despite her circumstances.
