Arleen Lorrance is an American educator, writer, and co-founder of The Love Project. She coined the modern “be the change you want to see happen” phrasing in 1974, in the context of her work at Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn — the earliest documented appearance of the line later mis-credited to Gandhi.
