Billy Joe Thomas cut “Hooked on a Feeling” at Chips Moman’s American Sound Studio in Memphis in 1968, and it became his second top-ten hit and second million-seller, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 after his 1966 No. 8 cover of “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.” He followed it with “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head,” an Academy Award winner and later a Grammy Hall of Fame inductee. From the mid-1970s he moved largely into contemporary Christian music while still performing the pop hits. He died in 2021.
