Joel had spent the 1990s stepping back from pop songwriting, and Greatest Hits Volume III was padded out with a small handful of covers — unusual for a catalogue built almost entirely on his own material. One of them was a brand-new Bob Dylan song. Issued as a single on 13 August 1997, it reached No. 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 9 on Adult Contemporary, and then quietly disappeared underneath everything that came after it.
