1936-1973 · American singer, songwriter and actor

Born Walden Robert Cassotto, Darin moved from rock and roll novelty hits into big-band swing and made the definitive English-language reading of this song. He recorded it on 24 August 1958; Atco issued it as a single (Atco 6158) in January 1960, and it reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 15 on the US R&B chart, No. 7 in Canada and No. 8 in the UK. The arrangement is his own territory entirely — the only error in the popular account is chronological.
