Christopher Markus (b. 1969) and Stephen McFeely (b. 1970) wrote all three Chronicles of Narnia films, then went on to become two of the highest-grossing screenwriters in history on the strength of the Captain America trilogy, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Michael Petroni shares the Dawn Treader screenplay credit with them, following earlier drafts by Richard LaGravenese and Steven Knight. Their job on Dawn Treader was to turn Lewis’s episodic sea voyage into a three-act blockbuster — which meant inventing dialogue Lewis never wrote, including the comfort Reepicheep offers Eustace in the scene this quote grew out of.
