Daniel J. Boorstin

1914–2004 · American historian & twelfth Librarian of Congress

Daniel J. Boorstin was an American historian who taught at the University of Chicago and wrote widely on American and world history. Appointed the twelfth Librarian of the United States Congress in 1975, he served until 1987 and was instrumental in creating the Library’s Center for the Book. His best-known works include The Discoverers, The Creators and The Image.
