Eagles

Formed 1971, Los Angeles · American rock band

Eagles used the song as a warm-up in stadium locker rooms and then as a concert opener, five voices around a single microphone, long before they recorded it. Their version was captured at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on 28 July 1980, days before the band broke up, and Asylum released it as a single that December; it went to No. 21 and became their final Top 40 hit until 1994. The performance is genuinely, thrillingly theirs — the only error in the popular story is chronological.
