1871–1946 · Michigan football coach & athletic director
Fielding Harris Yost coached the University of Michigan Wolverines from 1901 to 1923 and again in 1925–26, compiling a 165–29–10 record there and six national titles, including the legendary “Point-a-Minute” teams of 1901–1905. He served as Michigan’s athletic director from 1921 to 1940 and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951. Preparation was his signature theme — the idea that wanting to win is worthless without the discipline to get ready for it recurs across his surviving lectures.
