The Peter Green-led Fleetwood Mac recorded the song in April 1968 for producer Mike Vernon’s Blue Horizon label, and the single appeared on 5 July 1968. It reached No. 31 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 7 in the Netherlands, and Green’s guitar tone on it became one of the most imitated sounds in British blues. The strings were arranged by Mickey Baker — the same guitarist who had played on Little Willie John’s 1955 session — though Green later said he regretted the overdubs. Nothing about the record is dishonest; the band never claimed the song, listeners simply assumed it.
