Fred Neil

Born Frederick Ralph Morlock Jr. in Cleveland in 1936, Fred Neil became a central, famously reluctant figure of the Greenwich Village folk scene. He wrote “Everybody’s Talkin’” and cut it on 13 October 1966 for his self-titled Capitol album — the song’s first recording. Neil never much wanted the career: he toured rarely, recorded little after 1971, and spent his last three decades in Florida working on dolphin protection, co-founding the Dolphin Research Project with Ric O’Barry in 1970. He died in 2001.
