1928–2003 · American television host, author and Presbyterian minister
Fred McFeely Rogers (March 20, 1928 – February 27, 2003) created, wrote, scored and hosted Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, which ran on public television from 1968 to 2001. An ordained Presbyterian minister, he treated the programme as his ministry to children and their families, and wrote a shelf of books for parents alongside it — Mister Rogers Talks with Parents, co-written with Barry Head in 1983, among them. Much of what he is quoted for was borrowed honestly: this line is his mother’s, and he said so every time he used it.
