Henry Ford

1863–1947 · American industrialist, founder of the Ford Motor Company

Ford founded the Ford Motor Company in 1903, launched the Model T in 1908, and moved his plants onto a moving assembly line in 1913 — changes that made the car an ordinary object and remade industrial work along with it. He was not himself a writer: My Life and Work and its sequels were published “in collaboration with” the journalist Samuel Crowther, who shaped Ford’s thinking into prose. His legacy is not uncomplicated — from 1920 his newspaper The Dearborn Independent ran a long run of antisemitic articles, later collected as The International Jew.
