Jimmy Cliff

Jimmy Cliff was one of reggae’s great international ambassadors — the star of The Harder They Come, a two-time Grammy winner for Best Reggae Album, and only the second Jamaican inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His 1993 recording for the Cool Runnings soundtrack is a genuinely superb record, and it became the definitive one for anyone who came of age in the nineties. The only error is chronological: he was covering an American No. 1 from 1972, not originating a Jamaican standard.
