John Muir

1838–1914 · Scottish-American naturalist, writer & conservationist

John Muir was a Scottish-born American naturalist whose books and essays helped launch the modern conservation movement and earned him the nickname the “Father of the National Parks.” He co-founded the Sierra Club in 1892 and campaigned for the protection of Yosemite and other wild lands. His rapturous prose about mountains, forests, and glaciers — much of it drawn from his own long solitary walks — is the natural home for a line like this one.
