Jorge Luis Borges

1899–1986 · Argentine writer, poet & essayist

Jorge Luis Borges was an Argentine short-story writer, essayist and poet whose labyrinthine fictions—Ficciones, El Aleph—reshaped 20th-century literature. He was fascinated by recurring archetypes and the idea that literature endlessly retells a handful of stories. His late essay “Los cuatro ciclos” distilled that conviction into the famous claim that there are only four.
