L. P. Jacks

1860–1955 · English philosopher, educator and Unitarian minister

Lawrence Pearsall Jacks (1860–1955) was an English Unitarian minister, philosopher and educational reformer. Born in Nottingham, he studied at Manchester New College and at Harvard under Josiah Royce, went on to serve as Principal of Manchester College, Oxford, and edited the Hibbert Journal, a leading review of religion and philosophy. He wrote prolifically on religion, education and the unity of work and play — the theme of Education through Recreation.
