Larry Ferguson is an American retired screenwriter and film director whose credits include Highlander (1986), Beverly Hills Cop II (1987), The Presidio (1988), The Hunt for Red October (1990) and Alien 3 (1992); he later directed Beyond the Law and Gunfighter’s Moon. He shares the Red October screenplay credit with Donald E. Stewart, adapting Tom Clancy’s 1984 novel. The closing “Columbus” lines are his invention — a piece of pseudo-period writing built to land the film’s last beat, and now one of the most durable fake quotations on the internet.
