Leo Durocher

1905–1991 · Hall of Fame MLB manager & shortstop, "Leo the Lip"

Leo Durocher (1905–1991) was one of baseball’s most combustible figures — a scrappy shortstop turned pugnacious manager of the Dodgers, Giants and Cubs, elected to the Hall of Fame in 1994. His running feud with the genial Giants manager Mel Ott produced the 1946 dugout crack that sportswriters polished into “nice guys finish last.” Durocher happily claimed the line for the rest of his life, titling his 1975 memoir after it.
