Demetrio wrote the song with Pedro Infante in mind, and by his own account Pablo Beltrán Ruiz supplied only its opening musical material while he composed the rest and the Spanish lyric. Because Demetrio sold his rights to Beltrán Ruiz, the song has often been credited to Beltrán Ruiz alone — which is how the writer of the song ended up the harder of the two names to find on a label.
