Malala Yousafzai (born 1997 in Mingora, Pakistan) campaigned for girls’ education under Taliban rule in the Swat Valley and survived being shot in the head by a gunman in October 2012. Her recovery in Birmingham, England, and her subsequent activism made her a global symbol for education rights. In 2014, aged 17, she became the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
