Margaret Millar

1915–1994 · Canadian-American mystery novelist

Margaret Millar was born in Kitchener, Ontario in 1915 and died in Santa Barbara, California in 1994. She married Kenneth Millar — later famous as Ross Macdonald — in 1938, and out-published him for a stretch: her early novels featured the poetry-quoting psychiatric detective Paul Prye, of whom The Weak-Eyed Bat (1942) was the second outing. She won the Edgar Award for Best Novel in 1956 for Beast in View and was named a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America in 1983.
