Martin Gabel came up through Orson Welles’s Mercury Theatre, appearing in its Caesar and Danton’s Death, and later won the 1961 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play, for the comedy Big Fish, Little Fish. To television audiences he was a fixture on CBS’s What’s My Line?, where his wife, actress Arlene Francis, was a regular panelist. He died on 22 May 1986; reference works disagree on his birth year, giving either 1911 or 1912, so quotle.info does not assert one.
