Mary Shelley

Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley wrote Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus at eighteen and nineteen, publishing it anonymously in 1818 when she was twenty. Daughter of philosophers William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft, and wife of poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, she went on to write further novels, short stories, and travel writing, and edited her husband’s posthumous work.
