Menachem Mendel Morgensztern of Kotzk was a fiercely demanding Hasidic master known for his uncompromising pursuit of inner truth and terse, piercing aphorisms. The teaching that God is present wherever a person admits Him is among the sayings most tied to his name, transmitted through Hasidic tradition and popularized in the West by Martin Buber.
