Chapman, the Australian-born producer behind Suzi Quatro, The Sweet and Blondie, wrote “The Best” with the American songwriter Holly Knight, whose catalogue of hard-edged pop anthems runs through Pat Benatar, Heart and Turner herself. The song was pitched to Paul Young first; he turned it down. Knight is also the writer Turner went back to when she wanted the bridge and the key change that reshaped the song into the version now used in stadiums and advertising campaigns.
