Nazareth

Formed December 1968 in Dunfermline, Scotland - hard rock band

Nazareth cut “Love Hurts” as a slow-burning power ballad, Dan McCafferty’s sandpaper rasp doing the work the Everlys’ harmony had done. Released as a single on 8 November 1974 and later collected on 1975’s Hair of the Dog, it reached No. 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and went to No. 1 in Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and South Africa. It remains the band’s only US Top Ten hit, and the only version of the song ever to be a US hit single. The record is genuinely great; the only error is chronological.
