Anthony Newley (1931–1999) and Leslie Bricusse (1931–2021) were a British songwriting team who wrote ‘Feeling Good’ for their 1964 musical The Roar of the Greasepaint. The same partnership wrote ‘Pure Imagination’ and ‘The Candy Man’ for Willy Wonka and the theme to Goldfinger. They are the figures the song’s fame obscures most: not the famous singer, but the writers whose show tune became a standard.
