Newt Gingrich

Newton Leroy Gingrich, born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 17 June 1943, represented Georgia in the U.S. House from 1979 to 1999. He became House Minority Whip in March 1989 — the post he held when the Los Angeles Times quoted him in 1991 — and served as Speaker of the House from January 1995 to January 1999. The line is characteristic of the insurgent, anti-institutional posture that defined his rise, which is exactly why it travels so well once someone swaps in a more glamorous name.
