Nicholas Klein

1884–1951 · American labor lawyer & union organizer

Nicholas Klein (1884–1951) was a Cincinnati-born labor attorney and union advocate who began as a reporter for a socialist magazine before earning his law degree in 1910. Addressing the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America in Baltimore in May 1918, he predicted the union’s trajectory in the four-stage line now routinely and wrongly credited to Gandhi. He later served on Cincinnati City Council and as vice mayor.
