Peter Ustinov

1921–2004 · British actor, writer, raconteur and humanitarian

Sir Peter Alexander Ustinov (16 April 1921 – 28 March 2004) was a British actor, writer and humanitarian who won two Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor, for Spartacus (1960) and Topkapi (1964). He was best known to the public as a raconteur, a fixture of television talk shows and lecture circuits for decades, which is exactly why a line of his turns up in a newspaper’s “Sayings of the Week” in 1955.
