Pino Donaggio

A classically trained violinist who moved into popular music in 1959, Donaggio was a fixture of the Italian festival circuit by the mid-1960s. “Io che non vivo (senza te),” which he co-wrote and sang at Sanremo in 1965, became the defining hit of his pop career and went on to sell in enormous quantities worldwide once English-language versions appeared. He later reinvented himself entirely as a film composer, scoring Don’t Look Now and a long run of Brian De Palma pictures including Carrie, Dressed to Kill and Blow Out.
