Ralph Carpenter

Fl. 1976 · Texas Tech University sports information director

Ralph Carpenter was the sports information director at Texas Tech University when the Dallas Morning News quoted him during a close Southwest Conference tournament basketball final against Texas A&M in March 1976. Yale librarian Fred Shapiro found that newspaper item, and Quote Investigator ↗ now provisionally credits Carpenter with the modern “opera ain’t over until the fat lady sings” adage.
