Arnold Jacob “Red” Auerbach was an American professional basketball coach and executive, and the architect of the Boston Celtics. As head coach he led the team to eight consecutive NBA championships between 1959 and 1966, retiring in 1966 with an NBA coaching record of 938 wins. He then ran the franchise as general manager from 1966 to 1984 and later as president and vice-chairman of the board, collecting sixteen NBA titles in all.
