Solomon Linda (1909–1962), composer of “Mbube” · George David Weiss (American songwriter), English adaptation
Linda composed and improvised the melody in the Gallo studio, then signed his rights over to Eric Gallo for ten shillings, apparently without grasping what he was giving away. Weiss wrote the English adaptation that The Tokens sang, and the 1961 credit ran to Peretti, Creatore and Stanton as well. Linda died in Johannesburg in 1962 and his family could not afford a headstone; his heirs sued in 2004 and settled with Abilene Music in 2006, which finally put his name on the song as co-composer.
