The Arrows

The Arrows were a London-based glam-rock band — American singer-bassist Alan Merrill, American guitarist Jake Hooker, and English drummer Paul Varley — who wrote and first recorded ‘I Love Rock ’n’ Roll’ in 1975 for RAK Records. It went out as a B-side and never became a hit single in their hands, though they played it on their own weekly ITV show. The band split around 1977, and it is a quiet irony that one of rock’s most recognisable anthems began with an act almost no one now remembers.
