The Provisional IRA

Irish republican paramilitary organisation · active 1969–2005 · statement issued 12 October 1984

The Provisional Irish Republican Army waged an armed campaign against British rule in Northern Ireland from 1969 until its 2005 order to end operations. The Brighton bombing of October 1984 was its attempt to kill the British cabinet, and the statement claiming it was issued by the IRA Army Council under the pseudonym “P. O’Neill.” These words are its words — a fact the quote-poster version of them entirely erases.
