The composition is registered to three names: Tiny Bradshaw, Howie Kay and Lois Mann. Bradshaw built the song by reworking the earlier “Cow-Cow Boogie” (1942) into an urban, hipster train scenario. “Lois Mann” was a pen name used by King Records owner Syd Nathan, a common label-owner device for taking a cut of publishing income; historian Larry Birnbaum has written that Kay’s identity remains obscure. The original King 45 label itself carried only a Bradshaw–Mann credit.
