Tiny Bradshaw

1907-1958 · American bandleader, singer, pianist and drummer

Myron “Tiny” Bradshaw was born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1907 and led his own swing orchestra from 1934. Signed to Cincinnati’s King Records, he placed five records on the Billboard R&B chart between late 1949 and early 1955, including the number-two hit “Well Oh Well.” His band was a finishing school for players such as tenor saxophonist Red Prysock, who blows on the 1951 session. A stroke in 1954 curtailed his career, and he died in Cincinnati in 1958 at fifty-one, long before the song he cut became a rock standard.
