Toni Morrison

Toni Morrison (born Chloe Ardelia Wofford in Lorain, Ohio) was one of the most celebrated American novelists of the twentieth century, author of The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon, and Beloved. She won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1988 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993. Before her career as a novelist she worked as an influential editor at Random House — the “third career” framing of the 1981 newspaper piece that first reported this remark.
