Whitney Houston (1963–2012) recorded ‘I Will Always Love You’ in 1992 for The Bodyguard, and her towering, a-cappella-opening arrangement so completely redefined the song that it is now hers in the public mind. Her version spent a then-record 14 weeks at No. 1 and became one of the best-selling singles of all time. This is the rare misattribution where the cover is arguably the more famous record; the only error is forgetting there was an original at all — a country song Dolly Parton wrote and sang first.
