b. 18 February 1933 · Japanese artist, musician and peace activist
Yoko Ono is a Japanese artist, musician and peace activist whose work also takes in performance art and filmmaking. John Lennon first became familiar with her and her work at her November 1966 Indica Gallery exhibition, where the piece “Ceiling Painting” rewarded a climb up a white ladder with a single word: YES. Approximately Infinite Universe (1973), her third solo album, turned from the avant-garde rock of her first two records toward a more conventional pop/rock sound — and it is on that album that this sentence lives.
