Joan Walsh Anglund was a hugely popular American author and illustrator of children’s books, known for her round-faced little characters with dots for eyes and no mouths. Her debut, A Friend Is Someone Who Likes You (1958), sold millions, and she published dozens of gift books and poetry collections. The bird line appears in her 1967 verse collection A Cup of Sun.
