The sentence really is in the Pali Canon: the Mahāparinibbāna Sutta (Dīgha Nikāya 16) records “vayadhammā saṅkhārā appamādena sampādethā” as the Buddha’s final words at Kusinara. But this particular English wording matches no published translation we could identify — the standard renderings read “subject to vanish … strive with earnestness,” “subject to ending & decay … reach consummation through heedfulness,” or “work out your salvation with diligence.”
