Briefest Correspondence: Question Mark? Exclamation Mark!
No letter, cable or telegram from Oscar Wilde containing a single question mark has ever been produced. The one-character exchange is a nameless comic filler that ran in British papers from April 1850; Victor Hugo’s name was attached to it in 1892, and Wilde’s name does not appear on it in any source earlier than 2013.
